In April of 1773, the British Parliament passes the Tea Act to grant the East India Company a monopoly on the American tea trade.  This ignited frustrations among Americans and eventually led to the Boston Tea Party.

First of all, I have to say...I have the matching tea cup to the one you've shown! I found it in a little shop in Northern California's Gold Country back in the 80s. I knew we had a connection:-D
