LOVING THOSE VINTAGE LINENS

When I'm out thrifting and/or antiquing, I am always watching for vintage linens and this summer I have found several new "old" ones.  I love to look for particular themes or colors of flowers. Isn't it fun to see what someone made by hand:

Sometimes you can tell that a dear lady ran out of thread and suddenly put orange or some disconnected color in there.  My Grandmother was like that - she had to be frugal.  Of course, I lay the odd colored ones back when shopping since I want to choose wisely the things that match my tea sets.

I was recently looking for just white toppers because in the past I had a lot of ecru pieces and no white ones.  Now that I have gone shabby chic I need more white so I have been selling my ecru pieces.  I did find this lovely cotton topper with a cutwork basket at each corner and a deep crochet edge (below) that is lovely.

I also loved the sheer topper with violets embroidered all over it!  (below) I have quite a few pansy pieces already but this violet topper is a lovely addition to use with my violet tea sets!

The one below is an entire tablecloth embroidered with Lilacs that I just recently found:

I have already shared some of these linens.....
others I will be sharing as "Time Goes By" (like the song)
in future tea time vignettes!

Hope your week is just peachy - I will be taking a break for a few days as I have company coming!  Time to get cooking!  I hope I can talk my friend into being a "model" for a tea setting in my garden.
She doesn't know about that......yet!

I am a big lover of all kinds of linens myself ~ you have some really darling little pieces. I'm always drawn to basket themed embroidery, it is just so cute! Enjoy your visit from your friend & I look forward to seeing your garden tea party! Judi

So many pretty linens! And just think of all the work that someone put into them. I love the white one with the cutout baskets in each corner! Nancy

I love embroidered linens because of my little babushka who embroidered and patiently tried to teach me to embroider, too.

I adore vintage linens as well -- have some of my mother's and grandmother's. I have a bridge set I'm guessing (rather than a luncheon set) similar to your basket one -- tablecloth and 4 wee napkins. And I use them!!!

I guess there are a lot of us who love old linens. When I use them I love to think of the women, like my grandmothers, who were never without a project. When I am crocheting, I see in my hands, the hands of my Gramma Geores, who did fine, fine work. Lovely memories, lovely linens - thanks for the post.

Such loveliness! I have so many vintage linens now, that I have to stop myself from buying more when I'm out shopping. Love to use them in projects, even if they are stained. I just cut out the stained part, or just use the crochet lace. Yours are so beautiful - a tea party with all those linens would be lovely!! Catherine (new follower)

Bernideen, your linens are oh, so pretty! It is hard to resist them. I usually always choose plain linens with a bit of lace or cutwork because I have so many patterns of china in my collection. However, if I do see one which 'speaks' to me I will snatch it up. Thank you for sharing your pretties with us and enjoy your company. Hope your friend will pose as a model for you. That would be fun!

Blessings,
Sandi

Beautiful! I just love vintage linens. I don't search out embroidered ones, but they sometimes come my way and I love them. I have a weakness for the vintage table cloths with fruit and flowers. Oh I do buy embroidered pillowcases and use them always. Your collection is gorgeous!

Those linens are beautiful. I have to try to find some while thrifting. I love the white one very much, but the violet one will be pretty for tea and the one with lilacs rally caught my eye!

Oh Bernideen, your vintage linens are wonderful! I look forward to see how you use them for your teas. The white cut work one with the crocheted edging really caught my eye, as did the violet one, but they're all lovely.
