UP TO OUR ELBOWS IN SCARECROWS !

No time to do my regular Teacup Thursday post.....up to lots of work here with other merchants getting ready for Scarecrow Days in Old Colorado City......

This is the first of 5 photo stations we have set up in Historic Old Colorado City! (I am in this photo in the upper left with the pink polka dot apron on!)

The Scarecrows were a collective effort of a team....for my part I dressed them and made the ladies bib burlap jumpers with the pumpkin doilies on the front....another lady (Lynda) and I poured plaster of paris (that was a mess) and made the sunflower arrangements in the baskets.

the Scarecrow Photo Stations are all in the 3 block Historic District!

These 2 ladies painted the faces that Artist Kathy Read drew on their faces.....

                 Hope you enjoyed my photos!!!

AMERICA'S BEST TEA ROOM RECIPES - ANOTHER GREAT TEA BOOK !

This is one of my favorite tea books we sell at my store!  It is only $11.95 and presents recipes from many tea rooms around America!

As the temperatures start to drop - it is a great time for soup!

I especially love this recipe for cheese soup and there is also a recipe in the book for Savory Cheese Scones that would go with the soup so well....

When I saw this recipe from a Tea Room in Clear Lake, Iowa I reflected to the times my husband and I directed Junior High Camp there in Clear Lake many years ago.

REPOSTING A PUMPKIN ROLL FOR TEA TIME TUESDAY

It's time to pull up your chair and enjoy some lovely Pumpkin Roll.....I am reposting this today for TEA TIME TUESDAY....as I am buried in putting clothing on scarecrows!  Yes, this weekend begins Scarecrow Days in Old Colorado City and boy am I "involved" !  I will be glad to finish up my part of the dressing the Scarecrow men and ladies! (pictures later this week)

Welcome to Bernideen's Tea Time Blog:

Do you have a jelly roll pan at home? You must buy one if you don't because so many cakes can be formed into a roll with a filling inside and sliced.

This recipe is made with Libby's canned Pumpkin and was in the Nov/Dec 2007 issue of Southern Lady magazine. This is easy!

Here is what you will need: 1/4 cup confectioners' sugar, 3/4 cup sifted flour, 1/2 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp baking soda, 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon, 1/2 tsp ground cloves, 1/4 tsp salt, 3 large eggs, 1 cup sugar, 2/3 cup canned pumpkin. An optional item: 1 cup chopped walnuts
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees, Grease a 15" x 10" jelly roll pan and line with greased and floured wax paper. Sprinkle a cotton towel with confectioners' sugar and set aside. In a small bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves and salt. In a large bowl mix eggs and sugar and beat in pumpkin - then stir in flour mix. Spread this batter over the wax paper smoothly. If you like- sprinkle with 1 cup of chopped walnuts.
Bake about 13 - 15 minutes. Check with a toothpick. When done - turn onto towel and peel off wax paper. Roll up cake and towel together and leave for 15 minutes.
Carefully unroll cake and spread cream cheese filling over cake and re-roll placing end side down on the bottom of a lovely plate or tray. Sprinkle confectioners' sugar on top - I even put some of the filling on top (I skipped the nuts but more could be sprinkled here too!)

Cream Cheese Filling: Beat together in a small bowl: 1 8 oz pkg cream cheese softened, 1 cup confectioners' sugar, 6 Tablespoons softened butter, 1/2 cup pumpkin and 1 tsp vanilla extract

GET READY FOR YOUR HOLIDAY TEA PARTIES WITH THE NOV/DEC ISSUE OF 'TEA TIME MAGAZINE'

The November/December Issue of Tea Time arrived at my store today!  Are you ready for their great new ideas for Holiday Tea Parties?  I love the way you can flip to the back and see the recipe guide - now that is helpful!  I have a confession.  I always do the same thing...that is....I cut one up and file the articles I want to save and keep another one intact. For example:

There is an article about the cake on the cover which I will file under Holiday Cakes.

Another one that I will file will be "Ringing in the New Year" which I will file under New's Year's Tea Party.

And what about a Christmas Dinner - yes ideas for "Christmas Carols and Celebrations" - ideas for a  lovely Christmas Dinner!

Lastly, ideas to be filed under "Fall Tea Party" with recipes and ideas in an article called Thanksgiving Weekend "Bountiful Blessings".

If you don't already have a subscription - you will want one for sure!   They always include an event schedule and you may find something perfectly wonderful going on in your neck of the woods!

CIDER BEANS, WILD GREENS AND DANDELION JELLY

One of the new cookbooks I have been looking forward to reading is CIDER BEANS, WILD GREENS AND DANDELION JELLY BY Joan E. Aller which is all about recipes from the Southern Appalachia.  I have to tell you that you will learn about our history when you open the pages of this cookbook!

And lest you think cookbooks don't belong on tea blogs, there is plenty here about tea too!  Frankly, I have forgotten so much that I learned in school about the geographic line of the mountain ridges that cross our country!  I never learned  who followed the Native American Indians to this territory and who followed after them.......so get ready for a lesson in history!

There are so many recipes in this book that I have heard about like Corncob Jelly and yes I had grits growing up in Virginia so here are your recipes for all those mountain foods:  Apple Fritters, Indian Pudding and Corn Pone!

Mark Twain's parents were from Possum Trot, Tennessee and she includes "Possum Trot Cowboy Gravy" as one of the many regional foods of interest!  I love these types of cookbooks because you can not only find unique recipes but you will learn so much about this area of the country and the people who lived there!
