EASTERTIME IS THE PERFECT TIME TO DECORATE AND IT'S TEA TIME TUESDAY!

You probably have some lovely old china you can use to make to presentation on your dining room table....look in those cupboards and see what you will find!  The colors of spring are the colors of flowers and there are many!  Do you have some old linens hiding from grandmother?  Perfect!  I never ARRANGE THINGS in the same place that I had them in last year....

CELEBRATING PALM SUNDAY WITH HIS TRIUMPHAL ENTRY!

Matthew 21: 9   Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying:
"Hosanna to the Son of David!
Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!
                               Hosanna in the highest!"

10 And when He had come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved saying, "Who is this?" 11 So the  multitudes said, "This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth of Galilee."

WE ARE ANXIOUS FOR SPRING IN COLORADO!

What can I say....I know you feel the same way!  As I leave work tonight to go home it is snowing like crazy - huge flakes after already getting 12" at our house earlier in the week.  Oh well...let us dream of springtime and time in the garden!

I saw some rhubarb at the grocery store but it didn't look very "springtime fresh".  I want to make a FRESH rhubarb pie with FRESH strawberries.  These photos are from last year and remind me that it won't be long!

THE COMFORTING SMELLS OF GINGERBREAD!

Last night after our recent huge snowfall, gingerbread sounded like a wonderful idea!  If your pantry has the basics you can always make some gingerbread...

Gingerbread ingredients:
3 eggs, 1 cup sugar, 1 cup molasses, 1 tsp cloves, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1 Tb. ginger, 1 cup chopped pecans, 1 cup oil, 2 cups sifted flour, 1 tsp baking soda, 1 cup boiling water.  Mix all dry ingredients first -  then add eggs, molasses and oil and beat well. Pour in the boiling water and mix.  Add nuts last stirring through.  Bake at 350 degrees for at least 30 minutes in a 9 x 11" greased the floured pan.  Cool

After cooling spread cream cheese frosting on top and sprinkle 1/4 cup of chopped walnuts on top.  Ingredients for frosting:  3 oz cream cheese, 3/4 cup of powdered sugar, 4 Tb softened butter.  Beat all together till fluffy and spread on cooled gingerbread.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN SPRINGTIME IS HERE!

Yesterday I took this photo in my back yard.  I often see this pair of morning doves spending the day in my yard.

I love watching them!
But things changed last night as you can see!

The same birdbath.....

A family of squirrels live in the Colorado Spruce...see him on the fence.  He refused to "jump in" even though I had shelled pecans waiting by the back door.

This is SPRINGTIME IN THE ROCKIES!

TEA QUOTE FROM THE PLEASURES OF TEA

Queen Victoria was the first to drop a slice of lemon into an English teacup. She tried it while visiting her married daughter in Germany - and loved it!

EASTER TIME CAN BRING HOT OR COLD TEA!

As Easter approaches you might consider offering both hot and cold tea- according to your weather!  Did you know snow is in the forecast in Colorado for tomorrow March 19th? Generally, we can get the most snow in March. Some of you might enjoy your Easter luncheon out of doors if you are in a southern climate!  Here in Colorado our frost date is later in May and we can often have snow in April. I have seen it snow in May and people have told me it snowed in June before!

Tea Quote

Cucumber sandwiches are a wonderful staple of tea parties. Here is a fool-proof recipe for perfect ones: slice two peeled cucumbers into thin slices.  Toss these with a dash of salt and about two tablespoons of white vinegar.

Let these stand for an hour and then drain.  Spread unsalted butter and a bit of cream cheese on white bread. Layer cucumbers thinly

LEARNING ABOUT THE GREAT PATISSERIES OF PARIS!

Last week I enjoyed reading a little,  fat book called "The Patissiers of Paris" (2007) by Jamie Cahill and I also took another look at "Paris Sweets" (2002) by Dorie Greenspan.  Words like Boulangerie, Palmiers, Brioche, Fromage and others were new to me.  I remember in the movie Julie and Julia when Julia Child made the upside down apple tart in the class she was teaching.  I had already looked that recipe up in her book "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" and found "La Tarte Des Demoiselles Tatin" was it's name.  I haven't made it yet but that would be fun!
I already baked madeleines and knew about the pudding cake Clafoutis.  I have seen in cookbooks the raspberry sauce known as Coulis. Last year I learned that financiers are french tea cakes. Some new words I learned in french were:  Fromage- cheesecake, Palmiers - elephant ear looking pastry, Pommes - apples, and Boulangerie- Bakery.
"Paris Sweets" has a chapter on "Ali-Babas".  I found this very fascinating! I've never had an Ali-Baba or a Baba au Rhum or a Baba anything but found their history at the Oldest Bakery in Paris.  Stohrer's goes back to the 1700's when Nicolas Stohrer was the Royal Baker for Louis XV.  Later he went on to open a pastry shop in 1730. The Ali-Baba is named for the "good guy" in 1001 Tales of the Arabian Nights.  The recipe for the original pastry is modified now with better ingredients and better tasting and therefore selling potential.  The recipe is in "Paris Sweets".

If you are planning a trip to Paris
it would be fun to visit as many Patisserie's as possible!
The Patisseries of Paris would
be an  excellent guidebook!

SUNDAY CELEBRATION

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts Nor are your ways My ways," says the Lord,
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways. And my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah  55:9
