Simone Beck's Madeleines Save the Day!

In the 2001 the 40th Anniversary Edition was printed for Julia Child's "Mastering the Art of French Cooking".  If my calulations are correct, Julia would have been around 88 years of age when she wrote an introduction for this anniversary edition.  Here Julia reflects and remembers how 40 years earlier she, Paul Child and Simone Beck did a book tour to promote their cookbook. In San Francisco she and Simca were asked to do a demonstration at a department store.  She tells the story of how the store owner's wife had ordered many madeleine tins and Americans really weren't purchasing them.  Simca decided to bake the little shell shaped cookies and the madeleine tins were finally a selling hit!

If you would like to try them - they are easy and I prefer the tiny ones...they are lovely for your Afternoon Tea! Easy to make too!

You can purchase the tins at Williams Sonoma Stores or a kitchen shop.

HI...love your dishes! I have never tried Madeleines, suppose it's because I don't have a pan! Maybe one day! Thanks for sharing! Donna (IA)

Hi

I came over from Pat Mille Fiori Favoriti's blog and loving all things pink and having discovered the joy of baking only recently, I'm so glad I did!

What a lovely blog! And thanks for the recipe for the gorgeous looking shell shaped bikkies. I shall try them (and bring them to work for a nice Monday treat) but I need to find a similar tray somewhere!

:-)

Take care

I've been looking for these cute molds since I saw them here and can't find them. I've tried all the obvious places (bed & bath, targe, etc.) and even some antique stores:( Do you have any suggestions?
