Nancy Ament takes on Joan Hassol's Choke Cherry Jelly

On August 24, 2009 I recommended a book to you on canning...."Well Preserved" by the late Joan Hassol is a delightful book to read! It is full of stories of how Joan canned her way through grief after her husband passed away. This summer I gave a box of canning jars with seals to Nancy Ament, who works next door at The Soap Box, a darling shop that smells heavenly!

Nancy's son had picked her some chokecherries and after borrowing my book she brought me back this delightful jar of Colorado Choke Cherry Jelly.

This is one of my favorite books......

Held up to the light....how lovely! Thank you Nancy!

Mmm, such a nice vibrant color. I must add "learn to can" to my list of to-dos. :)

Her book is called a "hymnal." I like that. It denotes a spiritual aspect to her simple pleasures of preparing for the winter.

There is something so beautiful in a jar of preserves. The choke cherry jam is just beautiful.
